What is a dental filling?
A dental filling is a restoration that is used to repair a tooth that has decay.
Do I need a dental filling?
Dr. David J. Harsant can determine whether you need a dental filling in Fayetteville, North Carolina, through a visual examination. Discolored spots on the teeth can indicate tooth decay. X-rays, and other diagnostic tools may also be used.
How is a dental filling placed?
When you come to our office, our doctor may numb the area before removing the decayed portion of the tooth. Once all of the decay has been removed, the area will be shaped to prepare it for the filling material. If a composite material is being used, the material is placed one layer at a time. As each layer is placed, it will be cured. After all the layers are in place and cured, the filling will be shaped and polished.
Does a dental filling require extra care?
Care for a tooth with a dental filling in the same way that you would your regular teeth. Brush your teeth twice daily and floss once a day. Also, be sure to make and keep your regular dental cleaning appointments.
