Dental emergencies occur, even on vacation. This can impair the time you set aside to relax and enjoy your time away from your busy life. This can be quite inconvenient, but it can be even more inconvenient and even more stressful if you’re not quite sure how to handle the situation. So, to help you know how to handle a dental emergency while you’re on vacation, our dentists, Drs. Davis and Harsant, encourage you to do the following things:

-For a toothache: Clean the tooth by brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and by flossing. When you’re done, rinse with saltwater to eliminate any bacteria or infection. Then, take over-the-counter painkillers to dull the pain.

-For a broken tooth: Try to retrieve all of the pieces of the tooth. Our dentists might be able to reattach them. Then clean the smile and try to keep it clean as much as possible. Call our office as soon as you can. We will decide if you need an immediate appointment at a nearby dental office.

-For a knocked-out tooth: Retrieve the tooth (only hold it by the crown) and gently rinse it. Do not scrub the tooth! It’s important to keep the tooth alive by placing it between your gums and cheek or by placing it in a cup of milk or saltwater. Call our office as soon as possible so we can help you find a nearby dentist who can help you.
