Your dental veneers represent a significant investment in the cosmetic appearance of your smile. With proper care and mindful choices your veneers can continue to provide you with a perfect smile for years to come.

Brushing and flossing twice a day are absolutely critical to maintaining the health of those teeth and gums. Dental veneers are essentially thin porcelain shells cemented over your natural teeth. While the porcelain material the veneers are made from isn’t subject to tooth decay, the teeth anchoring them can still be vulnerable. When brushing the veneers you should choose non-abrasive toothpaste with added fluoride.

Your natural enamel is harder and more durable than the porcelain material in your veneers. If you enjoy eating hard foods you might want to develop the habit of cutting them into chunks and popping them into your mouth. Repeatedly biting into hard foods as this can sometimes cause minor chips in the porcelain biting edge.

For this same reason you should also avoid biting open bags or biting off pieces of string.

Your dentist might advise you to refrain from activities that could stain your teeth, this includes certain foods, dark beverages and of course tobacco use.
