What can you do if you have a toothache but have to wait before your dentist can see you? We have a few suggestions for you.
Floss to remove any food in your teeth: Toothaches can be caused by a variety of problems, including decay, an infection, a fracture, or an erupting tooth. Obviously, each of these problems requires help from a dental professional, but toothaches can be caused by more mundane issues. For example, the source of your ailment could be food lodged between your teeth. The solution to this problem is fairly simple: just try flossing to remove the problem.
Apply an over-the-counter antiseptic with benzocaine: An antiseptic with benzocaine can also provide relief. However, it is extremely important that you use an antiseptic as recommended on the package’s instructions. It is also important to never use a product with benzocaine on a child younger than two.
Try oil of cloves: Did you know that oil of cloves is a common ingredient in many dental products. To find relief, place a few drops of the oil of cloves onto a small piece of cotton, put the swab on the painful tooth, and bite down. Instead of oil of cloves, you can also try crushing or grinding a clove, mixing it with olive or cooking oil, and placing it on the piece of cotton.
